Clare is a medical herbalist and massage therapist living and working in South Devon. I trained at the Scottish School of Herbal Medicine in Glasgow, qualifying in 2010 with a BSc(Hons) in Herbal Medicine and ITEC level 3 diploma in Aromatherapy and Holistic Massage. Herbal Medicine is the most widely practiced form of medicine worldwide. It forms the basis of modern western medicine and it is only in recent generations that we have forgotten what was once inherent knowledge. It is a holistic practice that takes into account a person's constitution and their relationship with disease as well as the symptoms they are presenting with.
As a herbalist I aim to address the root cause of illness in my treatments and where possible support the body's innate healing capacity through the use of botanical medicines. Your first appointment will last an hour. We will use the time to talk about your current health and symptoms, your past medical history and any family history of disease. Following the consultation I will devise a treatment plan and prescription of herbal medicine. Return appointments are generally every 4 to 8 weeks. Herbal Medicine can be used to treat acute and chronic illnesses and length and style of treatment will vary depending on the person and the illness.
I practice therapeutic aromatherapy massage using base oils and essential oils to enhance the positive effects of the massage. The skin is the largest organ of elimination in the body acting as a barrier and filter for what leaves and enters. Massaging with botanical infused and essential oils is an excellent way of using the healing, medicinal properties of plants in conjunction with the manipulative therapeutic effects of massage.
We will have a short consultation at the start of the appointment to gain an understanding of your current health, expectations around the treatment and to discern which oils will be most appropriate for you. Massage can be used as a regular treatment to help maintain emotional and physical health.
